Fat Lady Does Art at the Grand Opera House
Yes the fat lady certainly does art at the Grand Opera House this April in the form of a month long textile art exhibition from the Art and Design students of the North East Institute. Art and Design BTEC National Diploma students from the Ballymena and Magherafelt campuses participated in a ‘live project' where they had to develop and produce a textile piece to be displayed in the Phoenix Gallery at Grand Opera House. The textile pieces are a celebration of this historic Opera House and what it represents, from its splendid interior, its rich history to the exhaustive list of famous performances. Darlene Hagan-Bezgin, Senior Lecturer at NEI said:” This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with one of the UK and Irelands most loved and enjoyed theatres. What we want for our students is to work on professional briefs, and on projects which are alive and real, letting students gain professional experience as they work through their course as many of our young students have and will be the designers of the future.”
