Armagh College Advises Scottish FE on EFQM
Mr Gerry Devlin, Assistant Director (Quality and Corporate Planning) at Armagh College made a third visit to the Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU) on Thursday 14 th June 2007 to further promote the principles of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Model within Further Education. The Scottish Further Education Sector is made up of forty three Colleges of which twenty six have so far participated in the sessions led by Mr Devlin. At the latest event, Mr Devlin provided an overview of the EFQM Excellence Model and its linkages to other college quality self review processes. This was followed by a case study on the implementation of EFQM within a college. Delegates were given the opportunity to participate in a ‘consensus reaching process' on strengths and areas for improvement resulting from an EFQM self assessment. Mr Devlin demonstrated how embedding EFQM in conjunction with a strong team ethos can lead to a college significantly improving its performance across a range of key performance results: Four recent results achieved by Armagh College were used to illustrate the approach: - Student Achievement (91%); Grade 1 Leadership and Management (Jobskills Inspection); Investors in People accreditation; Association of Colleges (AOC) Beacon Award and AOC Presidents Award. The key message from the event was that EFQM can be used by a college to add considerable value to its core business processes and key performance results.
