ANIC to Host National Training Award Workshop ANIC is hosting a workshop on how to apply for a National Training Award. The workshop will be held in ANIC on Tuesday 6 March 07 from 9.30am until 1pm and a facilitator will be on hand to talk about the application process and how best to approach it. New College Names Agreed
The names of the six new colleges have been agreed. They are as follows:
Belfast Metropolitan College incorporating the current Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education and Castlereagh College of Further and Higher Education.
North West Regional College incorporating the current North West Institute of Further and Higher Education and Limavady College of Further and Higher Education.
Northern Regional College incorporating the current Causeway Institute of Further and Higher Education; East Antrim Institute of Further and Higher Education and the North East Institute of Further and Higher Education.
South Eastern Regional College incorporating the current East Down Institute of Further and Higher Education; Lisburn Institute of Further and Higher Education and North Down & Ards Institute of Further and Higher Education.
South West College incorporating the current East Tyrone College of Further and Higher Education; Fermanagh College and Omagh College.
Southern Regional College incorporating the current Armagh College of Further and Higher Education; Newry Institute of Further and Higher Education and Upper Bann Institute of Further and Higher Education.

Award Winning Photographer Launches Book
Former East Antrim Institute photography student Russell Pritchard has published his much anticipated new book ‘Glens Through the Lens'. Russell took two and a half years putting the impressive collection together.
East Antrim Institute Competes in BBC Big Bumper Science Quiz
East Antrim Institute was recently invited to take part in the BBC's interactive Science Quiz. The programme, which was broadcast live, featured a hand picked audience competing against local celebrities and viewers at home.
East Antrim Animal Care Students Support Local Sanctuaries
Animal Care students at East Antrim Institute organised a fundraising drive to provide much needed supplies for a number of local animal sanctuaries. The students, many of whom volunteer as helpers at various animal sanctuaries, were inspired by the increasing pressure placed on these facilities at this time of year.
From Cows to Kawasakis!
Almost one hundred farmers attended Fermanagh College on Friday 2nd February to celebrate the success of the Fermanagh Farm Re-skilling and Diversification Initiative. The Initiative which began in 2003, was delivered by Fermanagh College, in partnership with Fermanagh Local Action Group [FLAG] and has been a major vehicle for the economic development of the farming community in Co. Fermanagh.

Launch of Business Support Club at Newry Institute
Providing support for local businesses is top of the agenda at Newry Institute. Recently more than 50 representatives from the local business community attended the launch of the new Business Support Club at Newry Institute. The new Club will further enhance the portfolio of services on offer through the Institute's Business Support Unit.
Students Gain Top Leadership & Management Qualifications at Newry Institute
A group of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Business students recently undertook the Managing Teams qualification which has been awarded to them by the Institute of Leadership and Management, the UK 's leading specialist body in awarding management qualifications.
NEI to ‘Get IT Together' with Ballykeel Primary School
The North East Institute has launched a new initiative ‘Get IT together' in association with Ballykeel Primary School in Ballymena. The Institute secured funding from the Department of Social Development (DSD), to implement a three-year programme as part of Neighbourhood Renewal in Northern Ireland strategy, which will offer IT courses each week in Ballykeel Primary School for parents of school children in the area. The programme entitled ‘Getting IT Together' will be delivered by NEI, with Surestart Ballymena supporting the project by providing crèche facilities. In the second and third years of the programme, participants have the opportunity to progress to higher levels in IT, to achieve the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification.
NEI and HMP Magilligan Win Top Award
The Irish National Association of Adult Education (AONTAS) has presented NEI and HMP Magilligan with one of its prestigious STAR (Showcasing, Teamwork, Awarding, Recognition) awards for adult learning projects throughout Ireland. In 1998, HMP Magilligan asked the North East Institute to train some of the prison's inmates. A ‘virtual classroom' which links inmates in a classroom in Magilligan to a lecturer at the Institute was established. AONTAS stated that, “this project was chosen because of its innovative approach to providing adult education, it demonstrates how modern technology and collaboration between two forward-thinking organisations can combine to deliver learning and training opportunities to a marginalised group.
New Archbishop of Armagh Visits Armagh College
Armagh College will be welcoming the new Church Of Ireland Archbishop Rt Rev Alan Harper to the college on Friday to celebrate the recent Beacon Award success. This will be the first official visit of the new Archbishop of Armagh who will be helping the college celebrate its top prize in the Churches sponsored Award for College Partnerships to Support Students' Development as Whole People and for its outstanding work and contribution to the Further Education sector. The Churches Award was awarded to Armagh College 's Community Relations Programme. The programme sets out to build a greater understanding of the issues and challenges facing divided communities and ethnic groups. It seeks to identify and implement practical ways of contributing to a fair, diverse and stable background.
The community programme has developed significantly over the past six years, in line with recognised good community work in practice. Assessors had the opportunity to visit the College and witness the work in practice as they spoke with learners on the programme as well as partners involved in enhancing the programme.
Belfast Institute Receives Mark of Excellence
Belfast Institute received a Mark of Excellence at the recent Northern Ireland Quality Awards, organised by the Centre of Competitiveness.
The NI Quality Award process represents the most rigorous assessment process of any awards in Northern Ireland and the Institute was one of only 16 organisations to be recognised.
Careers Days at Belfast Institute
Belfast Institute will be holding a Sport & Leisure Career Day on Thursday 8 February @ 11.00am in Millfield - Building 1, Lecture Theatre - 1st Floor. This follows on from similar events which were held recently to publicize Occupational Therapy and Chartered Surveying.
Conexus Achieves Top Quality Mark for Training Programme Conexus, the training division of Castlereagh College, is the first College in Northern Ireland to achieve the ISO quality mark which reflects the high quality of service and delivery within the Construction Skills Register (CSR) health and safety training programme. ISO is the world's leading developer of international standards and specify the requirements for state of the art products, services, processes, materials and systems.

LSDA NI Annual Conference
This year's LSDA Annual Conference will take place on Tuesday 24 April 2007 from 9.00 am – 4.15 pm at the Galgorm Manor, Ballymena. The conference is entitled Delivering Public Value and will facilitate discussion framework to help organisations deliver a performance that accommodates client satisfaction and social outcomes. MLN Conference
The Management and Leadership Network's (MLN), half day conference (including breakfast and lunch) entitled ‘For Leaders Who Aim Higher', is being held on Wednesday 28 th February 2007 at the Hastings Culloden Estate and Spa.
Grundtvig Contact Seminars
A contact seminar is one of the most helpful ways of finding partners if you are interested in becoming involved in a Grundtvig project. For those wishing to attend seminars it is worth noting that the Education Service of Leargas provides funding to cover travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. The Management and Leadership Network's (MLN) Management Month, in February 2007, is aimed at current managers or anyone aspiring to become a manager. Be part of MLN Management Month and ‘Release your Potential' by attending the various events or even run an event as a Management Month Partner.
NTFS Individual Awards 2007
The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) Individual Awards aim to raise the profile of learning and teaching, to recognise and celebrate individuals who make an outstanding impact on the student learning experience and to provide a national focus for institutional teaching and learning excellence schemes. The Scheme is open to all those involved in supporting the student learning experience in higher education in England and N Ireland. 50 individual Fellowships of £10,000 will be awarded at a gala dinner in September.
